Basic First Aid
Course Description
Basic First Aid aims to develop the attitude, skills and knowledge of a person to provide basic first aid in an emergency situation.
A Basic First Aid certificate from the Australian Lifesaving Academy of WA offers quality first aid training in WA that will enable the participant to perform resuscitation and assist in minor first aid situations. The course is delivered under the Australian Quality Training Framework and is Nationally Accredited
Course Content
- Apply the principals of Basic First Aid
- Perform a basic emergency care management assessment - D.R.S.A.B.C.D
- Apply Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Emergencies due to lack of oxygen
- Recognition and management of patients with broken bones, dislocations, sprains and strains
- Recognition and management of patients suffering minor burns including sunburn
- Treatment of wounds, shock and bleeding
- Anaphylaxis
Methods of Delivery and Course Duration
Full Course:
- 1 Day (7 hours) of face to face training and assessment
Course Information
Minimum Age Requirement: 13 years
Pre-requisite: Nil
On successfully completing the training, participants will obtain a nationally recognised Basic First Aid Certificate together with a Statement of Attainment in the units of competence:
- HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR
- HLTFA201A - Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
Validity: Basic First Aid Certificate is valid for 3 years. It is recommendation from the Australian resuscitation council that the CPR component be updated every 12 months.
