Defibrillation
Course Description
Early access to defibrillation, combined with early commencement of effective CPR, is critical to the successful resuscitation of victims experiencing cardiac distress.
The aim of this Defibrillation Training program is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to ensure the treatment of a person suffering cardiac arrest. These skills include the use of semi-automatic external defibrillators.
Course Content
- Define defibrillation
- Identification of cardiac rhythms
- Identify signs and symptoms of heart attack
- Name and identify types of Semi Automatic External Defibrillators (SAED)
- Outline the defibrillation process
- Perform simulated operation of a SAED with instruction
- Safe operation of external defibrillator
- Maintenance and storage of external defibrillators
Methods of Delivery and Course Duration
Full Course:
- 2.5 hours of classroom style highly interactive learning and assessment
Course Information
Pre-requisite: PUAEME001B Provide Emergency Care
Certification and Validity
On successfully completing the training, participants will obtain nationally accredited statement of attainment in:
- PUAEME010B - Operate a semi automatic defibrillator in an emergency OR
- HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR
Validity: Defibrillation Certificate is valid for 1 year from date of completion.
