nib foundation Community Grant
- Created on Tuesday, 03 April 2012 03:04
Surf Life Saving WA has been successful in obtaining Community Grant funding from the nib foundation for 2012. The grant has been awarded to SLSWA for the development and implementation of a Mobile Training and Education unit, to travel throughout the state delivering both nationally accredited and surf awareness training.

Over the past 12 months SLSWA has received an increase in demand for training to be conducted within remote locations throughout WA. The vast distances, isolation of communities and the subsequent costs in travel, accommodation and time to reach these communities has restricted the ability for SLSWA and other organisations to deliver to remote communities. The nib foundation Community Grants aim to support locally-based initiatives that will make a difference to the health and well-being of communities.
SLSWA have been successful in obtaining funding for the establishment of a Mobile Training and Education Unit. The Mobile training unit will be equipped with all resources and equipment to conduct CPR, Senior First Aid, Occupational First Aid, Life Skills for Life and Community Surf Rescue Training to schools, community groups and corporate clients. The unit will enable SLSWA to reach more communities and enable them to have access to life saving skills and training programs that contribute to the health, well being and resilience of the their community, at the same cost as metropolitan courses.
The Mobile Training and Education Unit will be rolled out in 2012, with the initial focus being on the Kimberly, Pilbara and Mid West Regions. It is envisaged that the funding will enable SLSWA to establish a sustainable program throughout the state that will benefit regional WA for many years to come.
