Spinal management is a Surf Life Saving Australia award. It is an element of the unit PUASAR009A - Participate in a Rescue Operation from the Public Safety Training Package.

- Documentation
- Patient assessment
- Review of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- The chain of survival
- Anatomy and physiology
- Immobilisation techniques
- Safety issues
- Equipment checks
- Application of a spinal collar
- Transporting the casualty
- Use of a spinal board
- Management of spinal injuries
At the end of the course you should be able to:
- Display a basic understanding of the spinal cord anatomy and injuries
- Describe the possible courses of spinal injuries
- Detail the signs and symptoms of a patient with suspected spinal injuries
- Demonstrate how to move a casualty with suspected spinal injuries
- Detail and demonstrate the management of head and spinal injuries
- Detail the principals of immobilisation for spinal injuries
- Detail the precautions necessary for the transportation of casualties with suspected spinal injuries
Accreditation
After successfully completing in training, participants will obtain a Surf Life Saving WA certificate of participation in Spinal Management.
Validity
Spinal Management is valid for 12 months
